From the Archives: The Bus Co-op

This is an episode of our From the Archives series, where shows that got lost in our private archives now get their chance to shine. Because of the changing nature of time, some information may be outdated.

In 2014, members of the Langley Senior Resources Society, the Langley Lodge (operated by the Langley Care Society) and Magnolia Gardens came together to celebrate the launch of their co-op, the Bus Co-op. Starting with two buses in the Langley region, this innovative co-op was designed to offer seniors an inexpensive alternative for transportation to events and destinations of interest, in a safe and more cost-effective way.  The Bus Co-op received financial and moral support from many members of the local co-op sector and beyond, including Vancity Credit Union and Modo Car Co-op, as well as the STAR program, a BEST initiative.

In this episode we hear from those involved in the founding of the Bus Co-op:

Tanya Paz, who comes from a long co-operative and car sharing history, having worked at Modo for 13 years and having been involved in the BC co-op sector since 1995. She is currently Manager of The Bus Co-op.

Janice McTaggart, who is the President of the Board for The Bus Co-op. She also is the Director of Outreach and Volunteer Services at the Langley Senior Resources Society

This episode originally aired on July 14, 2015.
