From the Archives: NorWest Co-op Community Health Centre

This is an episode of our From the Archives series, where shows that got lost in our private archives now get their chance to shine. Because of the changing nature of time, some information may be outdated.

Since 1972 NorWest Co-op Community Health Co-op has been the only non-profit community based health care agency in the Inkster area in Winnipeg.

Corey Mohr is the Community Development Coordinator at the NorWest Co-op. He co-ordinates a wide range of services like work-skills development, money management and community cleanup and beautification for residents. Mohr graduated with a degree in recreation management and community development from the University of Manitoba, and is now pursuing his interest in community development.

We learn about the history of this Community Health Co-op, how it got started and how it works as a co-op. We also learn about the wide range of services they provide, including a variety of counselling services, women and children’s health, indigenous health, daycare services, food and nutrition support, work readiness programs, all with a holistic and community-centered approach inspired by the Hans Kai health program.
