Credit Unions accepting donations for wildfire help
It’s now official—this summer, B.C. has had its worst wildfire season, ever.
British Columbians are still facing massive wildfires that have triggered evacuations in several communities across the province.
Urgent help is needed for individuals and families evacuated from their communities.
In addition to making their own donations, B.C. credit unions are also partnering with Central 1 and the Canadian Red Cross to help the thousands of British Columbian’s impacted by wildfires. Donations can be made at any credit union branch in B.C.
And from August 15 until October 12, 2018, the Province of British Columbia will match all donations made by individuals who are residents of B.C, up to $20 million.

Kootenay Carshare Co-op now more affordable
The Kootenay Carshare Co-op in Nelson, B.C. is now offering a new casual membership, making car sharing more affordable in the region.
The car-share co-op is now waiving the normal $500 membership share.
The casual membership structure is for people who are looking to use a vehicle on a temporary basis, or for a short period of time.
The Kootenay Carshare Coop was founded in 2001 when a group of Nelson residents decided they each no longer needed a vehicle. It now has branches in Nelson, Kaslo, Kimberley, Revelstoke, and Rossland.

Running on pedal power, courtesy of the bike co-op
For some New Brunswick students returning to school this week, it will be like having spin class at the smoothie bar.
The local cycling co-op, La Bikery, has donated five stationary bikes to Moncton-area schools. And each bike has been souped up in a way that makes it equipment for both fitness and nutrition.
On top of the rear tire, where you might expect to find a cargo rack or a baby seat, it has a blender — of the kitchen appliance variety.
La Bikery in Moncton has built a number of blender bikes that can make smoothies while they’re being pedalled.
“People love sitting on the bike and blending up their food,” said La Bikery executive director Jennifer Kay. “They can use them both to combine physical activity and some healthy eating practices,” said Kay.
La Bikery workers will also offer some safe riding tips, show students how to make sure their bike and helmet fit properly, and teach some basic bike maintenance skills.
