For small, local farmers, gaining access to new markets can be the difference between mere subsistence and actually making a living growing food. And for consumers, having a safe, secure and local supply of fresh produce and other goods is vital, especially during this pandemic. Enter the Cape Breton Food Hub Co-operative connecting farmers and consumers through online shopping and a transportation network. The result: more jobs on farms to meet increased demand, more fresh food on local tables.
Now, Food First Newfoundland is starting a similar project in the Humber Valley region with advice and support from the Cape Breton team.
