Amherst Island Radio in Ontario

At Each For All we enjoy reaching out to other independent radio stations and sharing their stories.  So it was a natural for producer Joshua Peterman to spend some time with Eric Tremblay, President and Brand Manager of Amherst Island Radio in Stella, Ontario, just west of Kingston.

“Born in a barn” in 2006,  CJAI 92.1 FM broadcasts from its milkhouse studios and is a multi-format radio station that is 100% volunteer-run and 100% non-profit. Support comes from listener donations and more than 70 advertising partners. CJAI loves to promote local events, organizations and community groups. Spoken word reflects local issues, wildlife and the arts. The station also showcases local musicians with live on-air performances and through Radio Free Stella which streams all local, all the time. Check out their show schedule, archives or listen live.

About the Author:

I love radio and pursue stories about people and communities working together to solve challenges creatively and often, with a lot of heart. It's the human side of the co-op model that intrigues me. That and any chance to travel, especially to smaller locales, where folks seem to know that co-operating just makes good sense!
