Nanaimo Helps Stock The Lockers for Students
The Nanaimo-Ladysmith Foundation is once again partnering with local organizations to Stock the Lockers for local students. “While we’ve seen significant economic upheaval due to COVID-19, more children will be coming to school hungry, without supplies, shoes for PE or ill-fitting clothes” according to Foundation Executive Director Crystal Dennison. Community partners assisting with this vital effort include Staples, Country Grocers, Coastal Community Credit Union, The Wave-Wolf, Nanaimo News Bulletin and Woodgrove Centre.
Last year the annual campaign provided 1,200 K-12 students with school supplies, $9000 in athletic, student and grad fees and $7,400 in basic supplies like clothing and gym shoes.
The Foundation also supplied 10,000 food hampers for area families when the pandemic forced schools to close in the Spring.
