Co-op activates relief fund for B.C.’s wildfire evacuees
Wildfires continue to grow and spread across B.C. — and they have put thousands of people on evacuation orders, who must be ready to leave their homes on short notice.
Emergency Support Services are now available in the communities of Burns Lake, Prince George, and Quesnel.
And Four Rivers Co-op of Prince George is opening up its Fire Relief Fund in this time of crisis. Anyone can come into a co-op location, make a donation, and the money will go towards evacuation efforts.
Four Rivers Co-op says it will again match all donations. During last year’s record-breaking wildfire season, more than $41,000 was raised in total.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund is being asked to visit co-op locations in Prince George, Vanderhoof, Quesnel, Houston or Terrace.
More information on how to contribute to the fund is also available at the Each for All website.

Calgary co-op readies to sell cannabis this fall
The Calgary Co-op, known for its liquor, gasoline and fresh produce, will soon be adding a new product to its shelves: cannabis.
The co-operative grocery chain will open 12 licensed cannabis sales shops around the city over the next year.
Some will be ready for the Oct. 17 legalization date but others are being built from the ground up.
The goal is to offer recreational consumers with connoisseur cannabis products, trade expertise, and affordable pricing.
The co-op’s stores will have a floor space of 1,000 to 1,200 square feet and all products will be locked in cabinets.
They’ll offer 300 or more products, from different cannabis strains to bongs and pipes. Fifteen cannabis types will be offered in so-called sniff jars. Sadly, however, no samples will be available.

PEI co-op has families scouring the beaches
If you’re on holiday, and see people combing the beaches and rummaging through every rock pile in western Prince Edward Island, don’t be alarmed.
They’re just looking for painted rocks, hidden by the Tignish Co-op. And finding one can help with the grocery bill or the next trip to the hardware store.
Along the way, it’s a good adventure for families.
The idea for the promotion stemmed from the painting talent the co-op has working in the bakery. Baker Karen Tuplin has painted a number of rocks for the co-op—and scattered them on local beaches.
The rocks are about the size of your palm and have the logos of Home Hardware, Tignish Co-op and Tignish Member Relations painted on them.
Prizes range from a $50 to $100 gift card.
