Financial Boost for Young Co-operators

Canada’s young co-operators received a big boost Aug. 27 with the announcement of $38 million in federal funding for those who want to start co-operative businesses.

The funds are a renewal of the financial agreement for Futurepreneur Canada, a national non-profit organization which provides services and programs to emerging co-operators. Some $3 million of the monies are earmarked to support Indigenous entrepreneurs.

John Kay, President of the Coops and Mutuals Canada Board of Directors said the funding news is a victory for CMC, and is the result of advocating for co-ops to have the right to all programs that other businesses can access.

Federated Co-ops’ Leah Andrew says “clean bathrooms are a top priority so we are flushed with pride that drivers notice the co-op difference.

I love radio and pursue stories about people and communities working together to solve challenges creatively and often, with a lot of heart. It's the human side of the co-op model that intrigues me. That and any chance to travel, especially to smaller locales, where folks seem to know that co-operating just makes good sense!
