Co-ops Can Access Government Support
Co-ops and Mutuals Canada confirms that co-operatives will be eligible for the same funding as other businesses from Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan.
Key highlights of the plan include:
-eliminating the payroll tax for three months by providing a 10% wage subsidy to small businesses;
-deferring tax payments until August 31 to ease cash flow;
-increasing credit to farmers through Farm Credit Canada;
-a new Emergency Care Benefit of up to $900 bi-weekly for up to 15 weeks for self-employed people who are not eligible for EI sickness benefits.
CMC will continue to monitor the federal government’s response to the Covid-19 outbreak on behalf of co-operatives across Canada.
Vancity Partners on Community Response Fund
A Community Response Fund has been launched in Vancouver to support charities serving local populations disproportionately affected by the corona virus.
Vancity Credit Union, The Vancouver Foundation, The United Way and individual donors have raised over $3 million so far.
The first phase of the grants will prioritize community-based organizations who are helping vulnerable populations with access to food, hygiene, housing and other basic needs.

Women’s Mentorship Program 2020 Postponed
The Co-operative Development Foundation has postponed this year’s Women’s Mentorship Program due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
This unique initiative brings women credit union managers from around the world to Canada for professional development and mentoring from Canadian credit union staff. It’s a wonderful opportunity for all participants to learn together and the visiting women to share knowledge and best practices in their home country upon return.
