Vancouver’s Brave Co-op wins the Opioid Tech Challenge

A Vancouver co-op working on technology to combat the opioid overdose crisis has recently won a major award. Brave Technology Co-op won the Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge, and with it came a $200,000 prize. Brave Technology is creating a digital supervised consumption platform where drug users can receive remote and anonymous support to prevent an accidental death from an overdose.

Brave develops technology that helps communities organize around safer drug consumption. Its products are designed to connect people who use drugs to the help they need. That may be a human supervisor to ensure they are safe, digital monitoring technology to detect when they’re in danger, a community of volunteer overdose responders, and professional emergency first responders.

As a co-op, its technology, design, focus, ownership and direction are all being determined by the community growing around Brave.
