Vancouver Food Bank launches Goodly social enterprise

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank has launched Goodly Foods, a social enterprise addressing wasted food in B.C.

Goodly Foods is a unique initiative that aims to develop a viable social enterprise repurposing surplus produce from local suppliers, while creating supportive community employment opportunities.

The goal of the project is to reduce the amount of excess food in the local system by re-purposing produce or finding new uses for it, when it would otherwise go to waste.

Goodly Foods is now ready to start production of their first product, a Hearty Tomato Vegetable Soup, thanks to a generous, investment grant from the Walmart Foundation.

With the recipe carefully developed by acclaimed Vancouver-based Chef Karen Barnaby, Goodly soup will be distributed through Food Bank channels and available for sale to buying partners in the fall of 2018

Central 1 develops Canada’s first authenticated voice banking service

Canada’s first-ever authenticated voice banking service using Amazon Alexa has launched from credit union organization, Central 1.

Central 1 clients Innovation Credit Union and Conexus Credit Union are piloting the technology that allows customers to use their voice to command actions for their bank accounts. It’s as if Amazon Alexa were a customer service representative.

In addition to being cutting-edge, the technology is revolutionary for those who may be either visually impaired, unable to leave their homes or use keyboards or smartphones to conduct their banking.
